Jim Keen, DVM, PhD // Animal Welfare // Whistleblowing //
A must listen-to hour of radio! Katherine is joined by Jim Keen, DVM, PhD. Beginning in 2014, Jim became a whistleblower of abuse of livestock used for research by the USDA and the University of Nebraska at the US Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, NE. This abuse was described on a front page expose in the New York Times by Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter Michael Moss. He has since joined forces with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) as an advocate for change to better the welfare of livestock on industrialized factory farms and in livestock used for research.
