Store loyalty cards are strong draw

Shoppers use them routinely, though impact is sometimes questionable

  • Tracy Jong has been having a running debate with family members about grocery store loyalty cards for years.

In fact, the 36-year-old village of Bergen administrator is herself ambivalent about those chunks of plastic that people carry in their wallets like credit cards or affix to their key chains to be used at grocery stores and other retailers for product discounts or bonus merchandise.

"I see some positives and some negatives,'' said Jong, who lives in north Chili, adding that the cards became so plentiful in her purse that she purchased a special wallet to store them. ...
