Dean Kaman has a very cool house

I just learned that the amazing Dean Kaman (inventor of the Segway and tons of other cool things) lives only 20 minutes away from me in Bedford, NH.  I would love to drive by and see his wild and wacky hexgonal house!

Milk may contribute to hormonal cancers

The latest from the Harvard Gazette is a scary indictment of cow's milk as a potent source of dietary estrogens. Estrogen is implicated in the majority of breast cancers, as well as prostate and testicular cancer.

"Among the routes of human exposure to estrogens, we are mostly concerned about cow's milk, which contains considerable amounts of female sex hormones," [said Ganmaa Davaasambuu, a Mongolia-trained medical doctor, a Japan-trained Ph.D. in environmental health, and a current fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.] Dairy, she added, accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of estrogens consumed.

"Pinktober" - The Marketing Onslaught Begins

At our regional Fall Festival this past weekend, one of the vendor booths had a local maple syrup producer whose folding table was filled with brown plastic jugs. Maple syrup is one of the joys of living in New Hampshire. Yummy!

But, jarringly, among all those warm fall colors was a whole selection of bright pink, Peptol Bismol colored plastic bottles filled with maple syrup.

Huh?

Oh, yeah, that's right. Along with the snap of Fall, it's time for "Pinktober" --  the annual onslaught of pink breast cancer ribbons. Even on maple syrup jugs.

They're turning up everywhere ...
